NOSTALGIA PRO STOCK ROCKS SYDNEY DRAGWAY

The Day of the Drags event in Sydney marked a milestone in the Nostalgia Pro Stock class as it was the second showing of the one concept category. With a mix of iconic cars and a packed lineup of enthusiastic competitors, the event promised to bring a wave of nostalgia to fans and participants alike. The event featured a field of five cars, each representing a different piece of piece of Pro Stock history.

Among the standout participants was Luke Romeo, piloting the ex-Steve Flynn car, which brought a sense of nostalgia to long-time fans. Also taking part were Nicholas Polito and Owen James, both driving cars with a special connection to the legendary Joe Polito, one of the most respected figures in the history of the class. Joe Polito’s influence loomed large over the event, as his ex Pro Stock cars raced together, rekindling the spirit of the 80’s and 90’s and honoring his legacy in Nostalgia Pro Stock. Naomi Dyson, racing in the ex Smith and Ware car, added another layer of intrigue to the event, while Joe Catanzariti showcased his own skills behind the wheel of the enigmatic Firebird, a car with a mysterious history.

The competition itself was fierce, with drivers pushing their cars to the limit. In the end, Owen James emerged victorious, securing the win in the Nostalgia Pro Stock category. His success was further celebrated when he was awarded Best Showman, recognizing his flair and enthusiasm, though big burnouts and wheelstands. Luke Romeo, despite a strong showing, finished as the runner-up, solidifying his place as a top contender in the class. Meanwhile, Naomi Dyson’s team, affectionately known as “The Mexicans” due to their Mexican themed costumes, won Best Presented. This category, which was judged after the first qualifying session, highlighted the light-hearted and fun atmosphere of the event, as well as the creative spirit of the teams involved.

A particularly special moment came when the two Polito cars raced together, bringing back fond memories of Joe Polito’s influence in the class. This pairing was a fitting tribute to the history and passion that has defined Nostalgia Pro Stock racing.

The event also featured plenty of startline games, adding to the excitement and energy of the day. The camaraderie among the competitors was evident, and the atmosphere was electric as fans cheered on their favorite cars.

But the Day of the Drags was just the beginning for Nostalgia Pro Stock. The class has already penciled in a few more events for the year, ensuring that the excitement will continue throughout 2025. Notably, Nostalgia Pro Stock will return to Willowbank on August 2nd and again to Sydney Dragway on September 20th for the Bangers and Mash event. Additionally, Nostalgia Pro Stock will make its Dragway at The Bend debut on October 25.

The success of the debut at Sydney Dragway would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the Day of the Drags staff, who allowed the new Nostalgia bracket to be included in the event. A heartfelt thank you also goes to Sydney Dragway, whose collaboration and promotion of the class in the lead up to the event played a pivotal role in making the class a success.

As the Nostalgia Pro Stock class continues to grow and evolve, the future looks bright for this exciting and captivating corner of drag racing. With more events on the horizon and a passionate community backing the class, the nostalgia of the past will surely live on for years to come.
