NAOMI DYSON UP FOR NOSTALGIA PRO STOCK CHALLENGE

This weekend at Sydney Dragway for the Day of the Drags, Naomi Dyson will be stepping into the cockpit of an iconic piece of Australian drag racing history — her 1986 Pontiac Firebird. While the car may not currently boast the raw speed needed for full-time Nostalgia Pro Stock competition, it is one with a legendary past. Originally known as the Australian Flag Car, this Firebird has seen action in Pro Stock across the 90s, famously driven by Wayne Missingham. It was imported from the USA by John Honan and underwent several transformations, including being reworked into the pink Smith & Ware car, all while competing in Pro Stock in Australia. This rich history only adds to the excitement surrounding Naomi’s entry into the class.

Under the hood, the Firebird is powered by a Small Block Chevy engine built by Westend Performance, capable of delivering impressive power. Naomi’s personal best stands at 9.05 seconds at 151 mph, a testament to the car’s potential. Naomi, who usually races in Super Sedan, says, “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of Nostalgia Pro Stock. It’s a driver’s class, and I love the technical side of it.” Although the Firebird may not be the fastest car on the grid, Naomi is determined to make an impact.

With a dedicated team of Warrick Dyson, Shane and Belinda McGregor, James Greenwood, and Aiden Dunscombe, Naomi is supported by a group of individuals who are all in on the mission to give it their best shot. Sponsors BNS Waterproofing and Penrite Oils are also backing her up, ensuring she has the resources needed to give it her all. While Naomi admits that speed may not be her primary advantage, she’s planning to win the Best Showman award teasing, “I can’t give too much away, or I’ll lose my advantage on the start line!” For drag racing fans, Naomi Dyson’s Firebird will surely be one of the standout attractions of the Day of the Drags event.
